CSEC Headquarters

Elements Of Design

To create the structure, the curved frame was built with tubular structural steel that was shaped to extremely tight tolerances. The entire structure was then covered with an extruded aluminum substructure. The unique ceiling, designed by Eric Sommer, was created by hand cutting douglas fir in a random wavy pattern. to create a natural texture with beauty of the craftsman’s touch. The CSEC Headquarters building in Ottawa illustrates Spring Valley’s ability to realize any architectural vision.

Steel / Aluminum / Custom Made Translucent Wood Panels

Cutting Edge Technology

CSEC required a building that would support cutting-edge technology and human creativity, and promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration.

To fulfill this objective, Spring Valley created a custom translucent wood panel named “iTrans”. Age- old logs were sourced from the depths of Georgian Bay and then sliced into 0.40mm thick veneer. They were laminated into panels which allow light to come through the wood, creating an radiant warm glow.
